Typically, agri-food engineers need a variety of skills:
- High-level mathematics (differential and integral calculus, statistics and numerical analysis)
- Engineering principles (mechanical, civil, chemical and electric)
- Computers and electronics
- Economics
- Agronomy
- Environment
- Microbiology
Two universities offer agri-food engineering programs: Université Laval (Quebec City) and McGill University (Montreal). Two undergraduate programs are available at the former university in French: Agri-Environment Engineering and Food Engineering. Université Laval also has a M. Sc. program named Agri-Food Engineering. McGill University offers Bioresource Engineering at the bachelor, master and doctoral degrees.
